Help Give DC’s Young Writers a Home to Grow

In its 20th year serving Washington, DC students, One World Education is directing this year’s donor and sponsorship support toward its most important campaign: The Writing Home Project.

The One World Academy has been recognized by the DC Mayor’s Office as one of the city’s top-performing afterschool programs, and One World is a recipient of a Library of Congress Literacy Award. Yet the Academy has operated in short-term leased spaces, creating recurring disruption and limiting our ability to grow and serve more students. The Writing Home Project will change that.

We are raising $250,000 by June 30, 2027, to help secure and establish a stable, long-term home that allows One World to expand access, deepen instructional continuity, and operate without the uncertainty of frequent relocation.

What This Makes Possible

With a stable, accessible, long-term home, One World can:

> Expand afterschool programming from 2 to 5 days per week
> Serve significantly more students from DC’s highest-need communities
> Provide ongoing training for teachers across 40 partner schools
> Create dedicated space for student writing, publishing, and storytelling
> Establish a consistent hub for families, educators, and community events

This investment ensures that One World’s impact continues to grow with greater stability, reach, and results for years to come.
